Description

Arpège, like an eternal myth rooted in the world of perfumery

From then on, success was there. This success, she owes it to her muse, her daughter Marguerite, born in 1897. This only child, musician, will be a real source of inspiration for her. For her 30th birthday, Jeanne Lanvin decides to offer her daughter a perfume, “Arpège”, a fragrance that has become legendary and timeless.

A birthday full of love

In 1927, Jeanne Lanvin wanted to offer her daughter a special and precious gift, as if to thank her for so much inspiration and love. Marguerite, who decides to call herself Marie Blanche, is then a musician. At the first inspiration of this fragrance, Marie Blanche exclaimed “It looks like an arpeggio”… Jeanne then wanted to keep this name. Very close to her daughter, and proud of her career, Jeanne Lanvin said “I wanted to give women what music brings to life”. A musical perfume, a floral symphony, a feminine elegance… Arpège is all of these at the same time, but above all it is the most beloved and well-known perfume of the Lanvin house. He has been able to cross eras and fashions without being updated. During this joyous parenthesis of the interwar period,

Arpège and its magnificent floral bouquet

“Arpège” is made from more than 60 different essences, and the ingredients have all been chosen with extreme quality. In order to offer this sumptuous gift to her daughter, Jeanne Lanvin surrounded herself with two perfumers, André Fraysse and Paul Vacher. They decided to take inspiration from the “My Sin” perfume by bringing it much more warmth. “Arpège” made its main note, jasmine, accompanied by the most feminine of flowers, rose. “Arpège” begins with aldehyde notes associated with the freshness of bergamot and neroli. The ultra-feminine heart is composed of a wonderful bouquet with the presence of Bulgarian rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley and violet. These are then warmed by a delicately sensual base thanks to sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla and tuberose. The exceptional bottle is signed Armand Albert Rateau, decorator of great renown. The apple-shaped bottle symbolizes the curves of women. On the front of the black ball, a golden engraving made by the great artist, Paul Iribe. This engraving, which later became the coat of arms of the house, depicts Jeanne leaning over her daughter Marguerite.

A mythical perfume, a major in world perfumery. Arpège has that little extra soul that we like to have close to us. A true tribute to the love of a mother for her child.

Released in 1927, “ Arpège ”is the expression of a maternal love that Jeanne Lanvin dedicates to her daughter, Marguerite on her 30th birthday. “Arpège” is a true floral symphony and like Marguerite, who prefers to be called Marie-Blanche, is a musician, so Jeanne chose the name of Arpège. With this sumptuous bouquet of flowers, sandalwood largely dominates the composition, and this is the first time that it has been used so much, especially in a feminine composition. Signed André Fraysse and Paul Vacher, the composition is a real triumph, upon its release.

A duo of perfumers to create Arpège de Lanvin

To create this perfume so particular to her eyes, Jeanne Lanvin chose a duo of perfumers, namely André Fraysse and Paul Vacher. André Fraysse was born in 1902 and was the exclusive perfumer for the Lanvin brand. He produced “Eau de Lanvin”, “Rumeur” or even “Scandale”. Died in 1976, André Fraysse is mainly known for having produced “Arpège”. As for Paul Vacher, he was a very creative perfumer. Because he liked to arouse emotions, Paul Vacher put all his soul into his perfumes. Paul Vacher is also known for having co-created “Miss Dior”, Christian Dior’s first perfume.

The dazzling floral scented bouquet of Arpège

“Arpège” is a floral essence aldehyde which has been since 1927, revisited by Lanvin. “Arpège” begins with an association of ultra fresh notes, those of bergamot, aldehydes and neroli. C11 aldehyde is a molecule resulting from organic research. However, some aldehydes actually come from citrus fruits. It was Chanel with its legendary “N ° 5” that incorporated aldehydes for the first time in a perfume. Today, aldehydes are very popular in niche perfumery. They give off floral, orange tones, similar to the scent of candle wax. The heart of “Arpège” is very feminine, because it is ultra floral. It is composed of rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and lily of the valley. Ylang-ylang is a tree native to Southeast Asia. In Philippine, its name means “flower of flowers”. Ylang-ylang essence is obtained by steaming fresh flowers. These are used a maximum of two hours after picking. There is no scent as sensual, flowery and exotic as ylang-ylang. In the compositions, ylang-ylang therefore offers flowery, sensual, soft and suave tones. The base of “Arpège” is both woody and vanilla, because it combines vetiver, patchouli, vanilla and sandalwood used here in overdose. In 1990, Lanvin reformulated the fragrance to bring it up to date, while leaving it essential, love.

Fragrance symbolizing eternal love par excellence, “Arpège” is dedicated to Marguerite for her 30th birthday. In this perfume, we will find a wonderful floral bouquet associated with sandalwood, in very large quantities. If it was revisited in 1990, “Arpège” is still one of the greatest successes of the Lanvin house.
